An Avenger is a backup dancer that takes either YUIMETAL' s place in older dances or adds to the performance with more movement. All Avengers that were added during the Dark Carnival/APOCRYPHA era (2018) are called THE CHOSEN SEVEN (5 new dancers + SU & MOA). MIKO-METAL & MINA-METAL are called MUSCLE METAL by the fans.YUIMETAL was a part of the original trinity, she is not an avenger.MOMOKOMETAL is not a part of the original trinity, but she is the only remaining main avenger as of now. MINA-METAL and MIKO-METAL are only used for Akatsuki (紅月-アカツキ) performances.

HOW BABYMETAL BECAME BIGGER THAN A SUBUNIT

BABYMETAL was formed in 2010, with the (original) lineup of SU-METAL, MOA-METAL, and YUI-METAL, now known as Mizuno Yui, with the unique concept of creating a fusion of Heavy metal and Bubblegum pop. At first, they were a sub-unit of the large Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin.Eventually BABYMETAL became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's graduation from Sakura Gakuin. BABYMETAL released their official debut album, BABYMETAL in February 2014. Their second album, Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. BABYMETAL has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia.In 2019, the group released their newest album, Metal Galaxy, which gave BABYMETAL a more mature and sophisticated yet energetic sound.

WHY ARE THEY NAMED BABYMETAL?

The name BABYMETAL is derived from the Hiragana of heavy metal in Japanese, ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru). By adding two strokes about the ヘ (he) to make it into the Hiragana べ (be), the word is changed to ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru).This "baby" aspect of their music was to be added through their J-pop idol influence, and their clean, high pitched, pop vocals."Baby" in "BABYMETAL" also stands for the birth of the genre they pioneered━ kawaii metal.

[WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND BABYMETAL?]

Well, Only the Fox God Knows!...Just kidding.This is my summarized lore explanation for the events of BABYMETAL's timeline from 2010 to 2021.-----The first kawaii metal band, BABYMETAL, was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of SU-METAL (Vocal&Dance), MOAMETAL (Scream&Dance), and Yui Mizuno as "YUIMETAL" (Scream&Dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres.These three girls were given the mission by the FOX GOD, God of All Metal, to defeat The Big Idol-Chan with the METAL RESISTANCE. With this they gave the world a new metal genre, kawaii metal, also called idol metal.From 2010 to 2017, BABYMETAL had learned to obtain the Light Force. With this light, they gave hope to the world using their powerful rhythms and energetic perfomances.Nearing SU-METAL's 20th birthday, the FOX GOD had given her a prophecy, that they would have to find the Dark Force in order to unlock a realm that had been sealed away from the world━the METAL GALAXY.Unfortunately to reach this realm, the metal spirit of YUIMETAL would have to be sealed away. Her humanity was still a part of her, and she had to prioritize herself. At first, SU-METAL was hesitant in continuing, but YUIMETAL promised she would be alright, sealing her memories of the METAL RESISTANCE away for good.SU-METAL was troubled. She felt that it was her fault that YUIMETAL was unable to continue. However, MOAMETAL promised to stay by her side no matter what. SU-METAL and MOAMETAL decided to continue on as BABYMETAL.With this, BABYMETAL held LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX, crucifying SU-METAL once more. They were able to unlock the Dark Force, and obtained more of it through the Dark Carnival Night Festivals during 2018. They also met 5 other metal spirits that would make them into the Chosen Seven. With the power of the Chosen Seven, BABYMETAL was able to obtain enough Dark Force to move onto the next quest.In 2019, BABYMETAL had now achieved both the Light Force and the Dark Force, and was ready to enter the METAL GALAXY.Light Force and Dark Force could not live without one another, so as soon as BABYMETAL gave both to the FOX GOD, they clashed together into a vast galaxy, showing a mix of bright reds and mellow blues.BABYMETAL explored the METAL GALAXY, able to finally mature into a new era of BABYMETAL.-Then, in the year of 2020, BABYMETAL was tripped up by a dystopia that spread throughout the world and were deprived of a place to play their music. This caused BABYMETAL's memories of their cause, the METAL RESISTANCE, to vanish.The metal spirits that had gathered for DOOMSDAY at Nippon Budokan in 2014 knew that this must be fixed.In 2021, the metal spirits resurrected BABYMETAL for their 10th anniversary at Nippon Budokan. Over a course of 9 shows, 9 gongs were rang. At the very last show 10 gongs were rang to signify the end of the METAL RESISTANCE, wishing that the 3 metal spirits that had shone on us since 2010 will become Living Legend.With this BABYMETAL's Legends were sealed away from the world for an indefinite time. THE ONE was saddened with this news, but would wait patiently until BABYMETAL returned.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH YUI AND THE GUITARIST, MIKIO?

On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno (YUI-METAL) had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. Due to this, the band introduced the concept of the Chosen Seven without YUIMETAL, and in 2019, they were rotating between the three Avengers, RIHO-METAL, MOMOKO-METAL, and KANO-METAL. There is speculation that the Metal Galaxy song, Shine was written for her.On December 30th, 2018, Mikio Fujioka, the main guitarist for the KAMI band fell from an observation deck and died from his severe injuries on January 5th, leaving behind his amazing legacy. BABYMETAL dedicated the song Starlight to him.

WHERE DID THE AVENGERS COME FROM?

Sayashi Riho is a former member of the HELLO! Project also known as Morning Musume.-----Okazaki Momoko and Fujihara Kano were once members of the school based group that BABYMETAL comes from, Sakura Gakuin.Kano and Momoko are no longer part of the group Sakura Gakuin, as they were set to graduate before the group's disbandment this August. HEY, WHERE DID THE OTHER AVENGERS GO?

Every other avenger except for Momoko have either been placed in another group, or have returned to their respective groups or solo acts.-----MOMOKO-METAL (Okazaki Momoko) recently performed with BABYMETAL at the 10 BABYMETAL YEARS BUDOKAN concerts that started January 18th. Momoko has grown popular in the K-pop world due to her participation in the MNet Survival Show "GIRLS PLANET 999". Unfortunately she was eliminated, but it is anticipated that she will be debuting in the Korean idol industry, or staying in Japan and becoming a BABYMETAL member.
-----KANO-METAL (Fujihara Kano) has not performed for BABYMETAL since 2019, since she is busy with her group oneFive who is also an AMUSE group.Please see their latest comeback, Underground, here!

-----Saya Hirai joined the Amuse group of Torahime Ichiza in March 2019. She then stopped posting on her own social media, but she appears on the Torahime social media and blogs.

-----As for Kotono Omori, she left the company and joined the kawaii metal group IRONBUNNY in April 2019. She also deleted her social media and uses the IRONBUNNY Twitter account.

-----Additionally, in September 2020, Sayashi Riho (RIHO-METAL) announced her departure from BABYMETAL and Amuse Records as a whole.She is now under Japan Toy Factory Labels and has released a solo album titled DAYBREAK. Please see more about it here.
